London, as is the case with so many other big cities, can be an expensive place to visit, this is particularly true if you don’t know how and where money can be saved. Dining out is certainly one of the main causes of your budget being heavily damaged!

London used to have quite a bad reputation for the standard of the food served in restaurants, and it was thought to be virtually impossible to enjoy a good experience when dining without having to spend a lot of cash.

Thankfully, that is no longer the case and there are many excellent London restaurants where you can enjoy very flavoursome and well presented food for an extremely reasonable price.

The five restaurants that follow all bring something completely different to the dinner table, from food for vegetarians to those who are looking for halal restaurants in London, but…they all have one thing in common…they all offer good food for a great price.

1. Pimlico Fresh: A great place for a pre-theatre bite to eat because it is quite close to theatre land. Pimlico Fresh, offer wholesome, fresh and satisfying food in familiar feeling surroundings. Hearty soups are very popular and are not your normal, somewhat predictable soup offerings; spinach and dahl is a particular favourite.

Main courses are predominantly of the casserole/stew variety, served in bowls that are very deep. A good example is a good serving of aromatic chicken jalfrezi stew with rice, this will only cost £5! You can allow £25 for a good meal with drinks for two people.

2. Baozi Inn: If you are often left feeling conned when making an order from a picture menu the Baozi Inn does a fantastic job of correcting any injustice, because they provide food exactly how it looks on the menu! Situated in Chinatown, this Chinese restaurant offers excellent value for money with main courses costing between £6.00 to £7.

3. Beatroot – Not so much a restaurant offering vegetarian food as it is a café where you are able to tuck into a hearty bean hotpot, shepherd’s pie (vegetarian version…obviously!) and many more different tasty dishes. Beatroot can be found in Berwick Street, Soho and provides a more than generous meal for two with soft drinks for an excellent £15.00 pounds, not a bad inducement for becoming a vegetarian!

4. Princi: If you love Italian cooking but are put off by the high prices that often make the meal less appetizing, then Princi will at least provide you with some hope. Another Soho based restaurant, Princi provides authentic Italian food for an unbelievably low price.

There are not many restaurants, if any, in the centre of London that can provide two people with delicious and authentic Italian cooking for less than £30.00 and this is the reason that Princi must definitely be a definite ‘must dine at’ for visitors to the city.

5. Tayyabs: A fantastic restaurant that serves Pakistani Punjabi food where dinner for two people costs less than £25.00 which is exceptional value. Tayyabs is a great option for those looking for halal restaurants in London, because Tayyabs serve only 100% halal. It is impossible to leave Tayyabs feeling hungry as the portions are very large and because of this sharing is welcomed as an acceptable practice by the staff and owners.

It really is not that hard to find good quality food for an acceptable price in London, even in the city if you know where you are looking, this short-list of five could have been much larger if every restaurant offering good food at good prices were listed ..so a sampling of 5 is all you have to start with accompanied by a good portion of encouragement to go out and about and unearth some fantastic, low cost dining experiences of your own!
