Kosher Restaurant In London

[Time Out Eating & Drinking Guide 2008]

‘Bringing the Big Apple to Edgware’ Kosher Restaurant in London is the lofty claim of this new grill restaurant. Dishes are named after New York landmarks, with Madison Avenue lamb cutlets or Broadway beef cubes; for vegetarians, there’s a Staten Island vegetable burger, Central Park portobello mushrooms or an Empire State salad – chargrilled veg, presumably piled into a suitably towering stack.

“…there’s something for everyone.”

But is the food authentic? On our visit the kitchen was finding it hard to deliver orders together, but produced a succulent corned beef sandwich (layers of thin slices instead of the thicker salt beef) and hot and crispy fried chicken. Ralphy’s is a good place for families with children; there’s something for everyone (with the possible exception of those watching their waistlines). You could have a juicy steak salad with capers and mixed leaves, or a hot dog with corn cobs and chips. The chefs also do a mean chocolate pudding, with gooey sauce oozing out. Ice-cream and milkshakes are, of course, parev – so expect colour rather than flavour. Ralphy’s is a stone’s throw from the long-established, non-kosher B&K Salt Beef Bar. In this area, which has a growing observant community, it should do well.

Yossi Horowitz – our Owner/Chef is a born and bred New Yorker, hailing from Crown Heights, Brooklyn. After achieving a degree in Culinary Arts from The New York Restaurant School, he worked in several different restaurants, quickly realising that there were few options for a strictly Kosher Chef in the restaurant industry. He therefore decided that opening his own restaurant was the best way forward and with a saturated market in New York City and a wife originating from London the decision was easy – “Bring the Big Apple” to London!

After living in London for a time and analysing both the market and his own personal culinary strengths “Ralphy’s New York Grill” was born (indecently named after his oldest son – himself born soon after their arrival in London). As a truly authentic New Yorker with a real passion for it’s native food, he felt himself best suited to introduce his “Home Comforts” to the London Community and Ralphy’s menu is as genuine as it gets, from the Pastrami and Corned Beef cut thin and piled high, right down to the Apple Pie (his mothers recipe!).

As a father it was also important to make his restaurant as child friendly as possible whilst maintaining a relaxed dining environment and therefore Ralphy’s prides itself on a great kids menu and crayons and placemats to keep the little ones entertained between courses. As a restaurant we aim to be fresh, delicious, courteous and exciting and strongly welcome feedback from our customers, so if you have something to say please do not keep it to yourself, there is always room for improvement and we are here for you so do let us know how we can serve you better!

We are genuinely enjoying our first Kosher Restaurant in London experience of running a restaurant and thank all of our loyal customers for their continued support and we hope to see you all again soon.

Small Town Restaurant In Pennsylvania Attracting Outside Attention

August 22nd, 2009 productsamplesauthor No comments

They are a small restaurant, in a tiny town in Pennsylvania, but Chaikhana Indian and Pakistani Restaurant is attracting regional attention. The restaurant reviews tell the story of customers who are happy to travel as long as 1/2 hour to taste the high quality Indian and Pakistani cuisine. Here’s what one customer had to say: “Many restaurants boast of having great food – but this place really lives up to its rave reviews.

Each time I’ve been here (after a 35 minute drive well worth taking)…”

Another customer had this to say; “I would highly recommend this place – in my opinion, this is the finest Indian/Pakistani restaurant in Philly and the area. Chaikhana, conveniently located in Montgomery Country, Pa, is a comfortable commute from Philli. but considering the number of restaurants in the Philadelphia area, this was a very remarkable compliment. But amazingly, these two customers weren’t the only two patrons who felt this way. Another diner wrote that: “My wife and I have tried 21 Indian restaurants in the Philadelphia region and by far the food at Chaikhana comes closest to the real deal.”

What is it that makes this restaurant so special?

The owner and chief chef, Kamran Khan learned to cook his native Pakistani food while studying in the University in America. Hankering after good home cooked food, he went out and bought a cookbook, and started making exquisite dishes for his friends and roommates. As the compliments built up, he must have thought about becoming a chief. What finally did the trick was a five year stint as volunteer chef for public broadcast TV fundraisers. Every year, he got so many compliments for his cooking that he knew he could succeed in the restaurant industry. Kamran describes his cooking as a blend of French influence with traditional Pakistani and Indian cooking. He likes to say that the spices in his dishes compliment the main ingredient of the dish and not the other way around.

So while people sometimes find the spices in Indian food overpowering, no one feels that way about the fare at Chaikhana. Although customers rave about a number of the dishes at the restaurant, the overwhelming favorite in the reviews appears to be the Chicken Kiryahi. Kamran won’t reveal the exact ingredients of the curry (gravy like sauce) of the dish, but his unique cooking style appears to have many adherents.
If you happen to be in the area, be sure to stop by and taste the exquisite cuisine at this Indian and Pakistani Restaurant The restaurant is located in the Super Fresh Arcade at 1301 Skippack Pike Blue Bell, Pennsylvania 19422. And it is convenient to King of Prussia, Villanova, Gladwyn, Bryn Mawr, Ardmore, Wynnewood, Wayne, Paoli and Philadelphia. Montgomery County, Delaware County, and all cities in the Main Line.
